Some more great news for Leeds fans .... It just keeps on comig!
Leeds United were dealt a hammer blow this afternoon when the results of Eirik Bakke's scan came through.
The Norweigan was diagnosed as having a snapped cruciate ligament and also cartilage damage.
This means that Eirik's season is over before it has even begun.
It is devastating news for Bakke who had stated his intention to stay at the club to help in the quest for promotion.
Bakke went down unchallenged during Leeds' 1-0 victory over Pitea in Sweden and took no further part in the game. At the time the club knew the injury was serious but could not have imagined how catastrophic the diagnosis would be.
Commenting on the injury Kevin Blackwell said:
"Eirik's situation is very worrying. It was one of those where no-one was near him and he just went down clutching his knee and we're keeping our fingers crossed it's not as serious as it looks."
Bakke had only just returned to action after missing all but eleven games of last season. The 26-year-old returned for last year's pre-season training suffering from patella tendonitis and was forced to undergo an operation that kept him out until the new year, but he was soon back on the sidelines after being forced to rest up with a month of the season remaining.
On hearing the news today the United boss said:
"It's a massive blow for Leeds United Football Club but it's also a massive blow for Eirik Bakke.
"He had bad luck with injuries last season and he was hoping to have a major influence this time around but it's not to be.
We all wish him a quick recovery.
